With everyone out to make money how can we keep ourselves safe?
The same way consumers are willing to pay big bucks to get their hands on the latest MAC cosmetics collections other consumers hustle to get the same type of make-up for less. Much less. However what these consumers aren't realising is that they could be putting their health at risk just for the sake of beauty.
A campaign has been launched by the City of London Police warning online shoppers about the dangers of buying counterfeit beauty products which they've stated 'could put their lives at risk'. Gives the motto 'beauty is pain' a whole new meaning. These 'knock-offs' were tested and found to contain urine, rat poison and cyanide among others things. These products are made in unofficial and unhygienic factories which are being sold on household known websites such as eBay and Amazon.
Det Supt Maria Woddall commented;
"Criminals are exploiting every opportunity to fool customers into buying counterfeits. Not only could these products have serious implications for your health but by simply going online and buying your personal and financial information is at risk." - London Evening StandardThe easiest way of keeping yourself safe is by reminding yourself 'if it appears to good to be true it usually is'. Spotting the signs aren't as hard as you would think. Yes some people may sell their unwanted make-up on the internet for a quick buck but then again a majority would have tried the product in store, returned it or given it to a family member or to a friend. Common sense will take you a long way.
